There is a Lesson to be Learning from Reading Commercials

Title - Reading and Writing in Commercials
By - Dawn Robinson
Primary Subject - Language Arts
Secondary Subjects - Other
Grade Level - 4
Objective: Understand that reading and writing are a part of everyday life.

Procedure: Allow the students to watch prerecorded 10 minute samples from infomercials. Explain how many companies convince consumers to buy products after explaining several reasons why people should buy their products.

Assignment: Create a television commercial to sell a product of your choice. Write a "script" for this commercial that provides several reasons why consumers should buy your product. Remember the more reasons that you give and detailed explanations that you provide for buying your product, the more convincing your commercial will be.

Assignment 2: The students will perform their commercials in front of the class.
